Powder Springs Summer Guide Feature June 2023

Welcome to the city of Powder Springs! If you are interested in free or low-cost summer activities focused on enriching kids and getting them excited about reading, follow our activity guide below…

The Book Worm Bookstore

Established in October 2005, The Book Worm was founded on promoting self-love and literacy in the Power Springs area. Holding over 30,000 different titles in a multitude of genres, The Book Worm supports the community by sharing and promoting a love for books. Due to its wide collection and inclusivity, The Book Worm was named the Best of Georgia by the Georgia Business Journal in 2022. Free wifi, free earplugs, sensory seating, and more are available in-store making it a sensory-inclusive certified environment. Book recommendation pamphlets are provided and many of the in-store displays highlight local authors to further a sense of community in Cobb County!

Powder Springs Library

Stop by the Powder Springs Library this summer to sign up for a library card or join the Summer Reading Challenge! Not only can you borrow books all summer long but the library is also hosting a multitude of summer events. Lego free play, Library Scavenger Hunts, and DIY days are being hosted throughout the summer so be sure to take a look at the event schedule to see what is coming up soon. The library also provides meeting rooms, public computers, wifi, printing, copying, and scanning services.

Wild Horse Creek Park and Seven Springs Water Park

If you find yourself in need of a quick cool-off during these hot summer months, come visit Seven Springs Water Park located inside Wild Horse Creek Park for a low-cost activity. For all Powder Springs locals, the entrance fee is $4.00 per kid and $6.00 per adult. If you want to visit but do not live in Powder Springs, the park is still open to you for $6.00 per kid and $9.00 per adult. Quarterly and Family passes are also available for purchase. The park features two water slides, a lazy river, a splash pad, and concession stands. Splash hours featuring fewer people and fewer water features to create a sensory-friendly environment are available for the special needs community. Wild Horse Creek Park is also home to the Ron Anderson Recreation Center which offers classes and summer camps throughout the summer.

Southern Quilt Trail

While walking through downtown Powder Springs, have a scavenger hunt to find every quilt painting that is a part of the Southern Quilt Trail. In order to preserve the history of quilt patterns that have existed for generations these quilts are painted in a variety of locations downtown. Most quilts have a panel describing the design and origin of the quilt. Spend a sunny afternoon walking around to find each quilt!

Seven Springs Museum at the Bodiford House

Want to learn more about the history of Powder Springs? Come visit the Seven Springs Museum on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., or Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and learn more about your community! Currently the “Powder Springs has some deep roots in it” exhibit is on display as well as “An Oral History Portrait of an African American Community” exhibit. Entrance to the museum is free and the front desk can also provide you with more information on local activities.

Thurman Springs Park

After stopping by The Book Worm, the Seven Springs Museum, and seeing all of the Southern Quilt Trail, end the day by visiting Thurman Springs Park in Downtown Powder Springs. Thurman Springs has a ping pong table, splash pad, playground, greenspace, multiple seating areas with tables, waterfountains, and bathrooms. The park is also hosting multiple outdoor movie screenings this summer at 6:30 p.m. on June 22, July 13, and August 11.
