WHY READING 3RD GRADE PROFICIENCY MATTERS
Reading proficiency by the end of third grade is a critical milestone in a child's educational journey. Studies show that children who are not reading at grade level by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. Let's work together to ensure every child in our community has the support they need to succeed.
Ways You Can Support Your Child
READ TOGETHER
Designate a quiet, comfortable spot in your home where you can set aside time each day to read with your child. Discuss the stories and ask questions to engage their imagination.
Visit Libraries
Take regular trips to the library and let your child pick out books that interest them.
Get Involved
Participate in Mayor’s Reading Club events or volunteer your time to support reafing programs at local schools and libraries.
