Collaborative Events: Week of August 30

What's happening with Cobb Collaborative this week (1) (1)

Here’s a look at what’s happening with Cobb Collaborative this week:

Tuesday, August 31, 2021

Every one of us has a mental health and it’s either strong and healthy or is in need of a little boost, just as with any other part of our health. However, mental health is often still stigmatized, stemming simply from a lack of understanding or fear. Inaccurate or misleading media representations of mental illness contribute to both those factors.

This Mental Health 101 class explains more clearly what mental health is, what to look for with certain diagnoses, and takes the fear and guesswork out of how to help others and yourself when faced with a mental health issue in the future. We all have a mental health, we need to understand better how to treat it!

Join Alexandra Thompson, LCSW and director of Cumberland Counseling Centers for the most important hour you will invest in your health this month!

To promote wellness and self care, we are now hosting monthly wellness events for families, caregivers, and the entire community! During these uncertain times, taking time to connect with other people while being outside enjoying nature provides ongoing social, emotional, psychological and physical benefits.

Our first wellness event is our “Walk for Wellness” on Tuesday, August 31, from 6:00-7:00pm, 377 Henry Dr, Marietta. This is a wonderful opportunity to be outside, to connect with other people, and to get in a nice walk at your own pace. We hope you will join us and bring family, friends, pets – ALL are welcome! Even if you come alone, please come – connect with others and do something good for yourself!

Please join us for our first face-to-face General Membership Meeting in 18 months! New location. New topic. Same great people. Same great connections.

In-person attendance will be limited to 30 people and we plan to offer a virtual option to join as well. For the health and well-being of all attendees, we are requesting that all guests wear face masks and keep them on when moving about the event space.

Our topic this month is the Intersection of Mental Health and the Disabled Community: Raising Awareness, Sharing Resources and Giving Hope. Join distinguished panelists from Tommy Nobis Center, Cobb County Community Services Board, Special Needs Cobb and more as we do a deeper dive into the mental health challenges that people with developmental and intellectual disabilities navigate.

Lunch will be provided, so please click here to RSVP for this event to help us prepare and plan accordingly.

Amy Crowell, author of the A-Z Guide to Event Fundraising and founder of Next Stage Advisors is sponsoring our general membership meetings for 2021.
