Erika Mitchell

Treasurer & Chair of Finance Committee

Erika Mitchell is the Southern Poverty Law Center’s chief financial officer. She leads the financial strategy that supports the SPLC’s strategic plan and oversees the organization’s administrative functions. Mitchell has more than 20 years of experience in the finance, operations and strategy fields. Mitchell’s accomplishments include providing strategic direction in support of international relations, improving organizational efficiency and effectiveness, and leading the implementation of growth strategies.

Before joining the nonprofit sector, Mitchell held various leadership roles at Deloitte, which provides audit, tax, and consulting services to brands worldwide. She spent most of her time in the mergers and acquisitions practice providing advisory services to domestic and international clients. Her tenure also included talent development work, where she designed and executed high-profile initiatives.

Mitchell devotes much of her time to helping underserved communities. She serves on the board of Our House, an organization that serves families experiencing homelessness. She also served as a site coordinator for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which provides free income tax preparation to low- and moderate-income people.

Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Syracuse University. She has a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance and strategy from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. Mitchell is an active certified public accountant licensed in New York and Georgia.
