Austell Summer Guide Feature June 2023

Welcome to the city of Austell! If you are interested in free or low-cost summer activities focused on enriching kids and getting them excited about reading, follow our activity guide below. Outdoor fun, indoor play, education, and how-to access free books are all featured in this guide to help you find what activity fits your needs best. Stay tuned for our summer activity guides featuring other cities in Cobb County.

Sweetwater Valley Library

Stop by the Sweetwater Valley Library this summer located in Suite 100 in the Threadmill Complex to sign up for a library card, join the Summer Reading Program, register for the 1,000 Books by Kindergarten program, and more! Participate in group walks for all ages, family storytimes, and craft activities available all summer. If you have time, play with toys in the library and if not, pick up a take-home craft activity.

Other reading activities include the Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled Summer Reading Program from June 1 through August 4 and the All Together Now Summer Reading Bingo challenge from June 1 through July 31 for all ages. Tween and Adult specific events are also available throughout the month. Threadmill Complex Museum

Interested in learning more about the city of Austell? Visit the Austell Museum in Suite 148 of the Threadmill Complex between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to gain insight into how the city came about and where it is heading! Artifacts, images, and more are featured within the museum curated by Bill Johnson.

Collar Park

Visit Collar Park to enjoy a covered pavilion, children’s playground, tennis court, and volleyball court. While you’re there, feel free to grab a free book from the Little Free Library! 

Legion Field Park

Visit Legion Field Park to enjoy a volleyball court, covered pavilion, playground, outdoor gym, and green space. An easily accessible walking trail by Sweetwater Creek also begins here if you are interested in a hike. A grill and bathroom facilities are also available on site. Stop by the Little Free Library in the children’s park to grab some reading material while you’re there!

Silver Comet Trail

Currently stretching 12.8 miles, Silver Comet Trail is a paved trail following an abandoned railroad line. Used by hikers, runners, skaters, and bikers, everyone is welcome to use the trail! There are different paths available and the 1.7-mile hike is recommended for first-time visitors.

Download the Libby app this summer and gain access to thousands of free books, audiobooks, magazines, and more through your library card. Available on Google Play and the App Store. 

Cobb County Public Library App

By downloading the Cobb County Library app, users are able to see what books are available, place holds, manage accounts, and renew currently borrowed books. Make your reading process easier and find more books to read this summer by downloading the app! Available on Google Play and the App Store.

Planet Fitness lets teens age 14 through 19 work out for free all summer! Download the Planet Fitness app to create an account and register here to get a free membership.
