Drug Free Communities Support Program

An initiative of the Cobb Community Collaborative that follows the empirically-based “Communities That Care” model:
  • Promote positive development of children and youth
  • Reduce negative factors within communities
  • Prevent substance abuse, delinquency, teen pregnancy, school dropout and violence

Goals:

  1. Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
  2. Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.

Download an Anti-Drug Message Flyer with the Collaborative's endorsement to post in your workspace.

        Community Leadership Development Program

In partnership with The Center for Family Resources, the Community Leadership Development (CLD) program is provided to residents who are interested in forming an action taskforce in their community.  The CLD program trains community residents to be proactive in identifying and solving problems in their community.  In turn, the participants bring meaningful changes to their communities by building local capacity and working positively with their local government.
The Center for Family Resources coordinates a 12-week series of workshops, based on the curriculum developed by the University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership.  The participants range in age from youth to senior citizens, working together to accomplish resolutions for community issues and improvements in their local environment.
