BARR WINS COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

BARR WINS COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
CFR’s CEO recognized as an Outstanding Chair for leadership with the Cobb Collaborative

MARIETTA, GA (October 26, 2007)—Jeri Barr, Chief Executive Officer for The Center for Family Resources (CFR), has been awarded a 2007 Community Achievement Award by the Georgia Family Connection Partnership, which acknowledges ongoing commitment to community services and honors collaboratives that are responsive to community and social needs. The Cobb Community Collaborative nominated Barr for the Outstanding Chairperson of a Family Connection Collaborative award, which she was awarded on Thur., Oct. 25 at the 9th annual Family Connection Conference in Athens, Ga. Barr served as the Collaborative’s first Chair, and is currently the immediate Past Chair for the Collaborative.

Barr was among 17 finalists nominated for the Community Achievement Awards. “Having a collaborative makes such a difference in serving the people in our community because it allows nonprofits and other agencies the opportunity to work together and share their information, resources, and talents,” said Barr. Joan O’Connell, Executive Director of the Cobb Community Collaborative, accepted the award on Barr’s behalf. “Jeri has served as the CEO for The Center for Family Resources for more than 20 years, and we were so fortunate to have her as a chair for more than one term because she is truly committed to strengthening families in our community,” said O’Connell.

Other finalists for the Outstanding Chairperson of a Family Connection Collaborative award included Shirley Aaron, Director of the Madison County Mentor Program, and Roger Vest, Pastor of the Harlem United Methodist Church in Columbia County.

2007 Collaborative Membership Dues Time

It’s that time of year again to renew your membership with the Collaborative....or to consider becoming our newest members!

We have grown in many ways and our Collaborative Members have played a large role in that growth.   A few of our successes over this past year include:

  • Reaching 100 members – a milestone in CCC history;
  • Creation of the Harmony House – a collaborative project under the Policy Council on Homelessness;
  • Co -organizing the first ever Homeless Veteran Stand Down event in Cobb County – Operation Stand Down 2006; and,
  • Increasing the pool of funding available under the Cobb County Nonprofit Grant.

In 2008, we will continue to expand the opportunities for Collaborative members to network and partner with other organizations through community focused projects.  We will also continue to offer a low-cost training series geared to assist nonprofits with organization sustainability.  The Collaborative’s Website will continue to serve as a one stop location for both Collaborative and community members to find resource information and to learn what current events are happening in Cobb County.

2007 will also be an exciting year for the Collaborative as we will be celebrating our 10-year anniversary!  Different events are in the works to recognize our members and the successes we’ve had over these past 10 years.  As part of the celebration efforts, we are striving to get a 100% renewal rate to maintain our 100 Member Strong and Growing motto.

Thank you again for all of your hard work, time, and energy put forth toward collaboration for a stronger Cobb County!  We look forward to your continued support through membership this upcoming year.  Visit our Membership Page to get the 2007 Application.

Sincerely,

Sandy Rodgers

Membership Committee Chair
