Homeless Awareness Week

Homeless Awareness in Georgia

Join us in our quest to bring Homeless Awareness to the State of Georgia.

Previous year’s theme, “Homeless in Georgia…No Place To Call Home” sends a call to action to all Georgia residents.

Homeless Awareness Week is a statewide campaign to educate the public about the many reasons people are homeless, the shortage of affordable housing for low income people. And the diligent work homeless assistance providers are doing to bring relief to those most in need. The Georgia Coalition To End Homelessness is spearheading the drive. Many organizations across the state plan activities such as:

Awareness Marches – Get a Group Together- Large or Small
Host Mini- Marches at Schools and Daycares
Set-up Awareness Information Kiosks – Hand Out Fliers and Awareness Ribbons
“Sock- It to Homelessness” new sock collections
“Undie Sunday” new underwear collections
“Make Friends With The Media” – Let them know you’re there !!!
Create A Local Call To Action
15 Minute Church Presentations
Posting Wish Lists in Local Merchants w/ Drop Boxes
Have a Latte-a-Day Fundraiser – Ask donors to buy a small latte a day for a homeless shelter when they buy their coffee- $2.00 a day can add up.

These are just a few ideas. This is a great opportunity for us to get the word out that

Homelessness is not someone else’s problem. It’s everyone’s

...on any given night in Georgia there are tens of thousands of

children and individuals with no place to call home

Cobb County Grant Review Process

The Collaborative oversees the Cobb County Non-Profit Grant Review Process under the Planning & Evaluation Committee, Chaired by S. Yates of The Edge Connection at Kennesaw State University and Co-Chaired by Ray Knott of United Way in Cobb County.   Planning & Evaluation acts as an oversight committee for the Cobb County Non-Profit Grant Process.

  • Biennially, Cobb County issues a request for proposals and makes grant awards for a variety of human services programs that address important community needs in Cobb County.  In an effort to ensure community involvement in the review process, in 1997, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners empowered the Cobb Community Collaborative to coordinate a team of community representatives to develop and oversee the non-profit grant review process.  The Board of Commissioners believes that as an organization with representation from a broad range of community agencies and stakeholders, the Collaborative and its membership would provide the forum, expertise and knowledge of our community needs necessary to ensure the best use of County funds in meeting human service needs
  • The Planning & Evaluation Committee provides the structure to planning and coordinating all stages of the review process, from the creation of the forms to the recommendations given to the County Commissioners on funding allocations.

Collaborative Members are welcome to participate on this committee.  Meetings are held monthly on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm at The Mansour Center, located at 995 Roswell Street S.E., Marietta. Please call the Collaborative at 770-514-7212 for any questions.
